I'm not complaining that I don't have enough work to do, but it's strange to be at so much of a loose end. I even had time on Sunday to see Thank You For Smoking, which not enough people in the audience seemed to laugh along with, but I personally chalk that up to a gross lack of a sense of irony in our national culture.
Speaking of national culture, did you get your tickets to the Singapore Theatre Festival yet? Faster go and buy!

Teehee, t'was a funny movie. Katie Holmes really sucked in it though, the reward was seeing her whacked by a tree at the end of the movie.
I didn't think Thank You For Smoking was that hot. I read a review which described it as ineffective because "committed to equal opportunity attack" and I think that sums up the problem with it quite nicely. With the business lobbyists it does show-not-tell and then with the liberals it does seriously heavy tell without a lot of show, so you get mixed messages about what you're supposed to be gleaning from it. At least that's how I felt. I'll grant quite a lot of it was reasonably funny but it could have been so much funnier.
However I like to think I have upheld the Singaporean cause by being practically the only person in a London cinema to giggle consistently throughout the film adaptation of Michel Houellebecq's Atomised.
